Best Locations to Take Family Photos in Whatever City You’re in

When you decide to take a family photo, the major challenge is most likely finding the most ideal location. Basically, you don’t want to take all your family photos from one location in the city. That’s because doing so will give your family portfolio a repetitive and an undesirable consistency. Therefore, scout your city thoroughly to identify the best place to take family photos. Identify the ideal spot for any circumstance, style, and scenario.

Here’s a Quick List of the Best Locations to Take Family Photos in Your City

Regardless of the city you are in, there are places that you will find impressive for family photos.

These include:

  • A shoreline or field with wider vistas for capturing the twilight glow and aura
  • An outdoor venue that features trees or tall grass that provides an impressive backdrop
  • An outdoor area that has a full shade that is ideal for midday shooting
  • A covered space outdoors like a covered porch or gazebo. This is ideal for an inclement weather shooting.
  • An indoor space that has high ceilings and windows to allow natural light in.

Since family photo sessions include different poses and backdrops, ideal locations for family photos have these elements. However, these locations are not easy to find.

It’s also important to note that you may require permissions, licenses, or permits to shoot family photos at some locations whether private or public. Generally, most municipalities require individuals to have business licensing to shoot photos in places like beaches and parks.

Be Flexible

Although you may have a list of the best family photos locations, be flexible. Bear in mind the fact that not all shoots will come out the way you desire. Nevertheless, enjoy every family photo session. Also be open to suggestions by family members, friends, and even strangers. This will enable you to find more impressive locations for family photos in whatever city you’re in.

Creating a Lifetime of Memories with a Photo Booth

Are you planning a party or an upcoming birthday party for someone special? Do you desire something totally different and fun for all your guests to enjoy and for them to be a part of? One of the best and most creative ways to celebrate a lifetime of memories is to have a Photo booth at your next fun event.

For the last few years or so, photo booths at party events are the craze! If you are the owner, you know how successful it has been for you. You also know how much fun running this business is. It can be a very rewarding home based business venture.

But I digress. In this article, I would love to share with you 3 innovative ways to have a Photo Booth at your next fun party.

1) Do you have a fun and crazy theme for your birthday party? The company you hire for your event can work with you to make available all their fun props along with other props that work within your theme. It may vintage, the 70’s theme or maybe it’s the roaring 20’s theme, you decide which theme you are after, and the props are available for you. You can wear funny themed hats when you go into the photo booth to take your photo. Once you are finished with your photos, the printer will print out on a long photo strip. Most owners can also customize a logo along with your theme that is printed at the bottom of each photo strip. This makes it a very memorable party.

2) Do you have a color in mind for your party? Many companies have many different backdrops available that match or go along with your party color. If you have decided to do your daughter’s Quinceanera and her color is hot pink and zebra themed, I am sure the people can provide that perfect backdrop for each photo taken in the booth.

3) Here is another creative idea for your next party. Many photo booth owners will provide an outside monitor that captures each crazy photo taken inside the booth. Many of your guests will be huddled around the monitor to watch the live event of the many funny faces with props taken by friends and family inside the booth. Your guests will enjoy many hours of laughs and enjoyment.

Why You Need To Hire a Professional Photographer

Do you know anyone that fancies themselves as a good photographer? Maybe someone that has all the latest gadgets and equipment, but just can’t seem to take a good clear picture to save their life. Or just has a dark cloud over them when they pick up a camera or video recorder. I have a family member that falls into this category and I wanted to share one of his many painful experiences and hopefully help you avoid his pitfalls. After reading this article, you will surely understand why you should hire a professional photographer for those very special moments in your life.

For the purpose of this article, we’ll call him Bob.

Over Bob’s lifetime, he has had many memorable events worth capturing on film, the birth of his 3 children (and their children), his parents 50th wedding anniversary, and all the “firsts” associated with a large and very close family. And with each event, Bob was right there with his camera(s) snapping shot after memorable shot, or so he thought. Never once did it cross his mind to hire a professional photographer.

Let me share one of his very painful experiences with you.

Bob’s parents celebrated 50 wonderful years as husband and wife. Like many other couples of that generation, for many years, they struggled to make ends meet. When Bob was young, his father took any job he could find to earn money (a lesson for many men today) and his mother made sure the family always had a warm and healthy meal to eat and clean clothes to wear. Bob was very proud of his parents and the sacrifices they made over the years, so when their 50th wedding anniversary came around, there was no doubt that Bob and his siblings would have an amazing celebration for them.

Every detail was attended to, all except one. The rest of the family wanted to hire a professional photographer to capture the event, but Bob proudly exclaimed that he would take care of the photography and give the pictures to his parents as a special gift. Everyone reluctantly agreed.

Fast forward to the wedding anniversary. It was a beautiful summer day. The caterer set up a stunning display of food, the ice sculpture carved an amazing heart shape with the words “Happy 50th Anniversary” across it, and everyone that was invited actually attended to help celebrate this event.

And there was Bob with a camera around his neck ready to capture every memorable moment of this perfect day.

Instead of having his parents and guests pose for those boring same old shots, Bob thought he would just wander through the party, stealthly snapping pictures of people talking, laughing and having a great time. So instead of mingling with the guests, people he has not seen in many years, Bob walked around all afternoon with his 35 mm camera, taking shot after memorable shot. This will be the best gift Bob could give his parents.

After about 4 hours into the party, as Bob went to reload his film, he made a startling discovery. The lens cap had been on his camera the entire time, and not one of his pictures turned out. By the time he realized this, some of the older family friends had already left the party, and others started clearing out as well. Needless to say, this was very devastating to Bob for a couple of reasons. First, he missed sharing this wonderful event fully with his family and friends. But also he didn’t have any pictures to give his parents.

Fun Photography Projects for the Holidays

The holidays mean getting together with family and friends and a lot of bored kids separated from their usual pastimes and video games and interacting with relatives they may not know well. You can help by suggesting some fun photography projects to not only make the visit more enjoyable for the kids, but perhaps capture some memories for a lifetime.

Light Painting

For this you’ll need a camera with a “B” or Blub setting that you can lock open the shutter, a tripod, a remote release, an external flash (it’s optional if you don’t already own one) and an assortment of glow sticks, flash lights and lanterns.

Since it gets dark early, this is a great winter holiday after dinner project. As soon as it gets dark, set up the camera on tripod and open up the shutter while the kids run around and paint in the air with different types of lights.

After a couple minutes fire the flash to include the artists in the picture. Let them see the results and figure out what to do to make the pictures better. Resist the urge to direct, just work the camera and flash for them. It’s the kid’s project, let them do what they think is cool. You’ll be amazed how creative they can be.

Bug’s Eye View

If you’re getting a new camera for Christmas, bring your old camera along and ask the kids to each take five pictures of how they think bugs see the world. The five picture limit keeps any one of them from monopolizing the camera.

That gives them a chance to run around in the woods and take pictures from odd angles.

If you don’t have a kid camera and don’t want to risk yours, you can buy disposable film cameras at the store for less than $10. While you may lose the instant gratification, you won’t lose any sleep if one of the cameras gets lost.

Family Tree

If you have a big family and a digital camera the kids can use, have them go around and take pictures of everyone and print them out. Then have the kids take the pictures and paste them on a piece of construction paper to make a family tree.

If you have photos of relative’s not in attendance, print them out so they can fill in the gaps in the tree. Have everyone able to make it sign their names under their pictures. You’ll be surprised at what a delight finding that in an attic box will be years in the future.
